Built in 1971, the hotel of Tavira was designed by the architects Barros da Fonseca and Paiva Lopes, with an architectural language marked by the decade in which it was conceived. It has specific characteristics with a strong aesthetic character that, from our point of view, not only should be maintained but also taken into account in the proposed design for its refurbishment. The proposal aims to enhance the comfort and constructive quality of the Eurotel Tavira to that expected of contemporary four star hotels. It maintains the buildings original identity and strong connection with the local context, integrating specific aspects from the Algarve region. It not only proposes the refinement of the existing building, with the purpose of having a clearer 70's design language, but also to reaffirm its connection with the surrounding context of Tavira and its local traditions. We intended to pioneer the interpretation of popular architecture, reinventing it frequently with design objects made by local craftsman or in the use of materials.
